#CURRENTLYCANCAN VOL 11

February went by so quickly! Black History month was lit. I’m still Black so everything’s right with the world. One thing on my to-do list before the month ends is to watch Judas and the Black Messiah. A film about Fred Hampton’s betrayal. If you don’t know who Fred Hampton is, please do your research. I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews about the movie but admittedly have been avoiding it because the same things that Fred Hampton and Black Panthers were fighting for, we’re still fighting for…50 years later. But I know it’s an important film and will be watching it this weekend. Getting off that tangent, let’s get into the highlights of my month.

01. GORILLA GLUE GIRL

I must admit that when I first watched the video I laughed at her. It just didn’t make sense how or why you would use gorilla glue in the place of hairspray! Like, girl whet?! Then it became a whole thing and I felt bad for her because of how difficult and painful it would be for her to get it out of her hair. Thank goodness, though, a doctor helped her out and everything’s right with the world. Hopefully, she learned a lesson and will never make that mistake again.

02. THERAPY

I started therapy this month! This was a long time coming for sure. It’s been a few years since I starting looking for a Black woman psychologist that hit most of the criteria that I was looking for in a therapist. It’s absolutely outrageous just how difficult it is to find a Black therapist! Moving back to Cincinnati, I forgot about how difficult it is to find Black medical professionals! It’s absolutely atrocious and frustrating but this is a conversation for another day. I started my search on TherapyforBlackgirl.com but the therapists were all mostly in Columbus or Cleveland. I wanted to find one in Cincinnati so once the world opens up, I didn’t have to travel far just to see a therapist.

Since I didn’t have a lot of luck on that website, I went to PsychologyToday.com and used their directory, and set the filters to Cincinnati and Black. I found my therapist and we’ve had two sessions so far but I’m quite fond of everything that’s been happening. In two sessions, my therapist has read my life for filth and I really can’t be that mad about it. It’s why I started therapy and I’m really happy that I have someone helping me on this journey of self-awareness and unlearning some toxic things that I do.

03. BANKING

My month started with my business bank account and personal bank account announcing that they are closing. Insert wall slide gif here. My life has been in shambles and the hunt for finding new banks has been a frustrating process. I’m happy to say that I found a new personal bank with One Finance and new business accounts with Mercury Bank. Now that I’ve settled on new banks, I have the headache of transferring everything, making sure all my autopayments are in the right place, and that I get paid in the right place. This entire process has made me realize that I need an assistant. Lol. An assistant that will help me balance all the things that I have going on in my life. Whether or not I get one is another story but I guess the first step is acknowledging the problem.

WHAT’S ONE THING THAT STANDS OUT FROM YOUR FEBRUARY?
