#CURRENTLYCANCAN VOL 39

Black History Month gave us two weeks of sunshine! Something that rarely happens consistently up here during the winter. I was so happy when I would either wake up to the sun or look at the forecast, and we had both sun and warm weather. Here’s hoping that spring comes early and there’s no more snow. This month, I felt more organized and in a groove with my schedule. Let’s get into what happened in February.

01. NSVs

So, y’all know I’ve been on this journey for about 1.5 years to get back to a healthier lifestyle. One new thing I incorporated into my workout split during the week is two days of incline walking on the treadmill for 30 minutes and 6 days of some form of ab work. I’ve also decided to increase my protein and fiber intake. This month, I’ve been seeing some no-scale victories (NSVs), aka physical, mental, or emotional changes that you see in your health and wellness journey that are not numerically based – i.e., weight, body size, BMI, etc. The clothes that I bought to accommodate my new size but fit a little light now fit with ease and extra room. While this journey has never truly been about weight loss (okay, maybe it was in the beginning), it’s a great plus. I’m more excited about how strong I’m getting – I’m squatting over 100 pounds – and how much easier it is to walk up all the hills I encounter in Cincinnati.

02. ANOTHER SCRAPED KNEE

At 36 years old, I still manage to scrape my knee like I’m 6 again. 😩😂 I was leaving the gym (a place I go to every week, twice a week) and knew that the steps in front of the door were there. I walked up them when I entered the building! Yet, because I wasn’t paying attention or just forgot, I completely missed the last 2 steps and felt flat on my knee and my face. Luckily, the only thing that I hurt is my knee and my ego. Luckily for me, no one was outright pointing and laughing, except for me of course. But many cars watched me fall, including my Lyft driver and a few people walking towards the gym.

03. FEBRUARY FAVORITE

I guess I’m a gel pen girlie now. My favorite brand of pens are Paper Mate. I love these specifically and have used them for years because of the smooth tip and makes my writing look a thousand times better. So, when Amazon suggested the gel version, I added them to my cart because I wanted to try it to see if I would like writing with a gel pen. Y’all. I’m sold. These are the pens that I use in my to do list planner and it makes keeping all my thoughts on one line because the tip is so small compared to the other type of pen I use.
