TRANSITIONING A JUMPSUIT FOR WINTER

Hey, y’all! Welcome to the first style post of the year! The last time I wore this jumpsuit was for a picnic in October when it was still blazing outside. I took these photos before the end of last year with every intention of posting it then but, like the end of every year, I was pretty ready to shut everything down. So, I decided to hold this off until 2022 and I’m really glad I did because this is the perfect post to start the year. I love the ease of jumpsuits – even though things can get a little hairy when you need to use the restroom – but I always see folks waiting for spring and summer to style them. So, I decided to create a post showing how to wear your jumpsuit in the winter.

ADD LAYERS

Transitioning anything from warmer to cooler temperatures requires layers. Layering is important to keep you warm but also it’s a great way to get creative and showcase your style personality with those spring and summer items.

Here, I’m layering a turtleneck under the jumpsuit that’s an immediate signal that winter is here. It was a pretty warm day so I didn’t need a coat. But if you want to add more layers, I would add a coat on top of this look. For temperatures below 40, I would have opted to add another layer with a sweater and a thick winter coat.

ADD BOOTS

Depending on the shape and cut of the leg of your jumpsuit will determine what kind of boots you could add to your look. Because the jumpsuit I’m wearing has a wider leg opening, I opted for booties. If the weather was a bit colder, I would have opted for my over the knee boots under the jumpsuit. If the leg opening was a little skinnier, I would have opted for boots that go over the pant leg.

RICHER COLORS

Even though I’m a strong believer in wearing color all year round – the brighter the better to be honest – I know not everyone feels this way. This is why I opted for a neutral palette for the layer and accessories. But if you want to incorporate color, richer color tones are always in for winter. I would’ve paired a burgundy red or plum purple coat with this look to add another layer of color. Or even doing a monochrome look with this jumpsuit would have worked.

If you wanted to add bright colors for the look, I would reach for complementary colors. Complementary colors are two colors on the opposite side of the color wheel. For example, red and green are complementary colors because they are on the opposite side of the color wheel. I use the color wheel whenever I’m looking for new color combinations.
