August is almost here, but the temperatures keep rising. While I spend a lot of time in air-conditioned places – whether that’s my apartment, a restaurant, or a friend’s house – there are few items that I repeatedly wear that help me stay cool and look cute without walking out of my house fully naked. There are 4 items that I keep on rotation for my summer wardrobe.

CROP TOPS
Love them or hate them, crop tops are here to stay. For me, they have become a staple in my wardrobe, especially my summer wardrobe, and have become a strong advocate for them. I’ll be the first to admit when crop tops returned to the scene, I was hesitant because I just remember growing up in the early 2000s and crop tops were so tiny. Paired with low rise jeans (please, for heaven’s sake, let’s leave these in the past), crop tops were the look of the time. I’m happy to say while you can find tiny crop tops if that’s your style, the crop tops that are more prevalent can work for you, no matter your style.
I’m very much into high waist everything these days, and there’s nothing like adding a crop top to something high waist. I stumbled across this crop from Amazon and have since bought every color. It’s the perfect material, and it hits in the right space, so you’re only really showing a sliver of skin.
SKIRTS & DRESSES
This is a no-brainer for me. More often than not, you’ll find me in dresses and skirts in the summer. The fabrics in the summer tend to be breezy with cutouts. A dress with the back cut out is ideal for me because I struggle with back sweat. Pleated maxi skirts are another favorite because they move with the wind. The ideal fabric for skirts and dresses is linen. I always avoided linen growing up because it wrinkles easily, and I hate ironing. Now that I’m an adult, I still hate ironing but understand the necessity of linen fabrics in the summer.
SHORTS
Last year, I talked about why you should wear shorts; since then, my shorts collection has exploded. As stated early, I’m partial to high waist anything, so best believe that my shorts match this criterion. The beauty of shorts is they give your thighs some air to breathe. There’s nothing like walking outside and not having jeans or something covering your legs.
COMFORTABLE SANDALS
I can’t even believe that this phrase is in my vocabulary. There was a time when all I wore were heels. While I still have my heels and cute uncomfortable flat sandals, wearing comfortable sandals in heaven. My new favorites right now are Teva 90s Multicolor (I also own the white ones too). I get the most compliments on these shoes whenever I leave the house and can walk for hours in these sandals.
