HOW TO: BRAIDED BEADS

I’ve been living my best life with these beads! I’m in love because they are super easy to do, I don’t have to add extra hair, it’s a unique spin on your summer look and a great protective style. Just don’t be surprised if I continue to rock a various of braided beads hairstyles for the rest of the year. Though I will say that after a while, you do get tired of the beads constantly hitting you in the face or how uncomfortable it is to sleep on them. But the beauty of doing it yourself is you can take it down when you’re tired of it without feeling guilty about the amount of money you spent on someone doing your hair.

PRODUCTS

You definitely don’t need a lot of items to achieve this style — just your hair and beads. Though if you want to add hair, it is super easy to do. I added Marley hair with this style but have been really feeling doing my own hair. I’m constantly amazing at the hang time I have every time I stretch my hair!

  • Moisturizer – typically I use my homemade whipped shea butter but you can use whatever moisturizer that you use to keep your hair hydrated.
  • Gel – I used both the Shine N Jam Edge Magic and Conditional Gel Extra Hold. They both live up to their hype. I rarely lay down my edges mostly because my edges don’t like ot be tamed. But the Edge Magic?!?! Gold.
  • Beads – I got these from my local beauty supply store. I highly recommend that route because you can typically get a pack of beads for under $3
  • Beader – I bought this one years ago from a beauty supply store. You can typically find it in some packs of beads.
  • Rubber bands – This is another product I get from the beauty supply store that cost like $2

TUTORIAL

I’ve done this style with both twist strand twists and plaits. I definitely prefer the look of the beads on plaits. My hair looks way more stretched and it lays flat on my scalp. I’m going to continue to experiment with different ways to style beads. Below you’ll find the quickest tutorial of how to achieve this look. I did about 40 plaits with 2 beads on each plait mixing the colors of black and brown for the beads.
