Hey, y’all! I’ve talked about why you should get a trim because for the longest I waited so long to get trims. Yikes. I know. That was clearly not a healthy hair decision. Since I’ve developed healthier hair habits, I’ve been intentional about recognizing when it’s time for a trim. Sometimes, when I know it’s time but don’t have the time to go to the salon, I’ll do it myself. But more to the point, how do I know when it’s time for a trim?? Well, there are 3 things that I notice that my hair’s doing that alert me to get a trim.

SHEDDING MORE THAN NORMAL
The first thing I notice is how much shedding occurs. I typically have a normal amount of shedding when my ends are healthy and trimmed. Chile, when it’s time for a trim though, it seems as if my hair is falling out like crazy!
MORE SINGLE STRAND KNOTS
Single strand knots are from the devil! I hate them with a passion. When I get more than normal, I know it’s time for a trim. Single strand knots are when the hair strand loops around itself or other strands, causing a knot.
When I run into a single strand knot, it takes all of my will power to not cut it out of my hair. I always have to be extra careful, and take my time when I’m detangling so I don’t pull out my hair.
DETANGLING IS MORE DIFFICULT
As a 4C natural, detangling is always a chore. When it’s time for a trim, I notice that it takes a longer time for me to detangle my hair. This is mostly due to single strand knots and how tangled my ends get.
A combination of all three of these things alerts me that it’s time to trim my hair. Luckily for me, my hair is pretty manageable until I get to that 3-month mark.
