Q-REDEW HANDHELD STEAMER: A REVIEW

Hey, y’all! I talked about the importance of steaming your natural hair and wanted to share my review on my purchase of the Q-Redew Handheld Steamer. I’ve actually had the Q-Redew for 4 years now so this review is a long time coming. When I bought it, I heard about the benefits of steaming your hair and wanted to see if incorporating it would be worth it.

THE GOOD

The Q-Redew is so easy to maneuver. All you do is put water in the removable container and plug it in. The steamer has a light that flashes when it’s warming up and when it’s warm, the light stops flashing. You press the button when you’re ready to start steaming your hair. That’s it!

The steamer doesn’t make your hair wet. It just adds moisture and allows my hair to be easily detangled. Also, it stretches my hair to give it the blown-out look whenever I use it. I typically use the Q-Redew when my hair needs a refresh or if I need to do something to my hair and I don’t have time to wash it.

THE NOT SO GOOD

Using this steamer too frequently will damage your hair. I learned this lesson the hard way. In 2018, I used the steamer every week for 2 months straight. I begin to notice that the ends of my hair and my edges were experiencing heat damage. When I noticed the damage, I begin to question why it was occurring because I hadn’t “put heat” on my hair in a traditional sense (blowdrying or straightening my hair). In actuality, I was applying heat with the Q-Redew.

It didn’t dawn on me until one day when I was firing up Q-Redew to refresh my hair for the week. The Q-Redew requires heat for it to work and if you’re not careful, you can burn your hands while using it. Knowing all of this, I wasn’t even putting heat protectant on my hair. So of course, my hair was getting heat damaged.

FINAL VERDICT

Purchasing the Q-Redew is a must, especially if you don’t have space or coins to purchase a hooded steamer. It’s a quick way to refresh, detangle, and elongate your hair quickly.

When you do use the Q-Redew, don’t use it too frequently and definitely apply heat protectant every time you use it because it does put heat on your strands.
