#CURRENTLYCANCAN VOL 34

I took an unintentional break from the blog this month. Mostly because a few things ramped up and didn’t allow for the extra free time I needed to write blog posts; however, it was a welcomed break because I felt my creativity was weaning and just needed some time to get it back. I’m always surprised when I miss sharing my thoughts and posts on here so I’m really excited to be back! Be prepared for me to be a little longwinded here. Let’s get into what’s been going on this month.

01. SNEAKERBALL

I had the opportunity to attend the 5th Annual SneakerBall with a client this year. The ball’s premise is to dress your best while wearing your best sneakers. While I’m not a sneakerhead, I think I did alright in that department and had a blast. Let me just say that this was the comfiest ball I’ve ever been to. My feet weren’t hurting by the end of the night because of the heels I wore. I saw the latest, greatest, and best sneakers all around. It definitely inspired me to step my shoe game up and I’m excited to do just that.

02. WE OPEN OPEN

It took some time but the Holloman Center for Social Justice is finally open. I remember having my first conversation with my then boss in 2020 when I started and she said, we’ll be opening the building next year so you’ll have to move down to Cincinnati. Three years later the statement finally became a reality. Seeing the culmination of our hard work and the vision of what we wanted the Center to look like was pretty amazing. We had the grand opening earlier this month and had the founding Executive Director, former teammates, current colleagues, and a few stakeholders celebrate the continued work that the Center inspires. The biggest takeaway is that I finally have an office that I can use whenever I go into the office.

03. PJ MORTON

My friend is obsessed with PJ Morton and he was making an appearance at the Columbus Soul Fest. Me always up for an adventure that takes me out of Cincinnati, tagged along for our quick trip to Columnus. While PJ Morton was a new artist for me (and I learned that he was in Maroon 5!), I was so excited to hear his music. I will admit that I binged his musical category before the trip so I wouldn’t be so lost. Let me just say he has made a new fan! The concert was amazing and so much fun! It was also great to experience it through the eyes of my friend and to experience her joy. We went to brunch the next morning at The Guild House and baybee that food was everything! I was pleasantly surprised at how the food exceeded my expectations. I had the lobster and eggs and it was so delicious! I highly recommend this place if you’re in Columbus or will be visiting there anytime.

04. AUGUST FAVORITES

It was time for a new sleep mask because my last one was all beat up. I was looking for another one similar to this mask but without the price tag. Enter Amazon. I found something with a similar feature, the 3D eye cups to protect my eyes. I bought this $9 sleep mask and can never wear anything else to bed. Because of the eye sockets, it’s truly blackout. No matter where I look, I see nothing but black. Every time I wake up, I’m stunned by the fact that it stays on through the night and how bright my room is. I’ve been sleeping really great through the night this month.

You know what I was not expecting to give me all the compliments this month? The wooden beads I put in my hair (see the look here). Listen, everywhere I went, everyone was mesmerized by these beads. They couldn’t believe that they were beads!! Tbh, I was a little hesitant about putting them in but I’m glad I trusted the process. Needless to say, I will always trust my instincts when it comes to style.

Something that I wasn’t expecting to love this month is Kayali’s Sweet Diamond Pink Pepper. Last year, I bought a sample of this perfume and hated it! Side note: shout out to Kayali for making their sample perfumes $4, accessible to all wallets!! Anyway, the pink pepper was the dominant note and didn’t fare well with my nose then. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, I tried it on because I was looking for another scent in my collection and forgot I still had some of this left. I put it on not thinking anything of it. Baybee! This dry down is the truth! All day, I kept trying to figure out what smelt so good. It was me. I was truly shocked at how good I smelled, hours later, and that I actually liked it!! This scent is quintessentially me! I’m sweet and spicy, just like this perfume. Moral of the story, sometimes perfumes need to settle and I need to not decide about perfumes until they do.

The girlies were right – Naturium is the truth! I bought The Smoother Glycolic Acid Exfoliating Body Wash and baybee my skin has improved?! I didn’t know that was possible since my skin has always been smooth and soft. Because it’s an exfoliating wash, I only use it once or twice a week and during my evening shower since it includes an acid. If you want something to give your skin a little extra, this is it. 10/10 would recommend.
