#CURRENTLYCANCAN VOL 14

August just started yesterday, yet here we are at the end of the month. I also just realized that this vol was supposed to happen last month, but I completely forgot to share it. This last week and a half have been hectic because I’ve been working on getting a big report done. Wednesday, I finished the draft, and it’s been like a weight lifted off my shoulders. So what perfect way to end the week than to recap the month?

01. NEW GLASSES WHO DIS?

Finally crossed off one item off of my adulting checklist – getting my eyes checked. The last time I got my eyes checked was in 2019. ? The panacea hit and we were on lockdown so I knew it was beyond time to update my prescription. I also knew because I was getting migraines constantly. I’m not new to the migraine game because I’m smell sensitive – aka I get migraines whenever I get a whiff of something strong that doesn’t sit well with my nose. So when my migraines started happening more frequently without a scent trigger, I knew it was time to find an eye doctor and get something scheduled.

I was able to get my new glasses from Zenni Optical because they have affordable eyewear and my previous frames were from there. I’ve gotten so many compliments on my last frames and knew that that would be the place I purchased my next pair. I do want more frames, you know, to switch things up but also because I know how clumsy I am and I don’t want to be caught slipping without at least one backup pair.

02. THE VACCINE WARS

The Pfizer vaccine is now officially approved by the FDA. In addition to the great political divide, America is just as divided on everything COVID related. There are still a lot of places that have low vaccination rates. The Black community also has a low vaccination rate for a myriad of reasons. The problem is the reasoning, across all lines, is so layered and complex. While I am vaccinated, I somewhat understand why some folks are so hesitant to get vaccinated. Let me say this, I knew when the vaccine came out that there would always be folks who just would not get it. That’s a given. Look at most things, not everyone decides to participate for a variety of reasons.

What I didn’t expect was this huge hesitancy to trust the actual science and the willfulness in which people are sharing and believing incorrect information. What I am not going to do is shame people who are choosing not to get vaccinated. Hell, there are people who want to get vaccinated but can’t because of medical reasons or they are not of age to get vaccinated. SO, I don’t want to diminish the real reasons why they will not get vaccinated. However, what I will not tolerate are folks that are just refusing to wear a mask or spreading false information about the vaccine as if they are experts. If you scared of getting shots, just say that.

It’s clear that wearing a mask slows down the spread. If you are vaccinated or not, you should definitely wear your mask. Especially if you’re not vaccinated. There are too many unvaccinated folks dying from this virus. We are really trying to help you here. For the love of Pete, wear a mask.

03. NEW MAC ATTACK

I finally made the plunge and purchased a new laptop. Y’all. It was time. My old mac was on its last leg and I was restarting it a minimum of 3 times a day for it to work properly. Now that I have a new computer, I forgot how easy a laptop should be. Let me just say that the Touch ID feature is so bomb! I don’t have to put my password in anymore. But it’s also super dangerous cause y’all know I be forgetting everything and it makes it super easy to make purchases that I shouldn’t be making. All in all, I’m really happy that I no longer have to restart my computer for it to work and to have a computer with all the newest features. Next up, the iMac.

04. THE INTERNET IS STILL UNDEFEATED

I’ve been wanting to share something like this for a long time but couldn’t figure out the best avenue for it. So, why not add a monthly round-up of things that made me laugh? The internet is a wild place. But the one shining light is the creativity and hilarious people I stumble across. Every day, I try to share funny things on my Instastories because there is so much bad happening in the world. I want to be a bright spot on the internet. So, here are a few things I found on Instagram that had me laughing all month long.

  • Because the Delta variant is outta control, the memes have sprung up about how it’s ruining our fall plans including this iconic and hilarious situation.
  • Because if you’re going to share with the entire world that you like to be funky, we will continue to make poems about it and graphics to help you do better.
