#CURRENTLYCANCAN VOL 37

November came and went like a blink of an eye. I don’t think I’m ready for the end of the year but I can’t say I’m not excited to wrap up this year. 2023 was a whirlwind and there were many good days that I’m grateful for. My month was focused on two big things that captured most of my time and attention. Let’s get into how November went.

01. MY FIRST WINNING CAMPAIGN

I worked on a campaign this year as a Political Image Consultant and it was an interesting gig, to say the least. That title is a fancy way to say that I was in charge of my candidate’s brand strategy and personal styling to ensure they were aligned with the overall message he wanted to convey to voters. It was exciting, intense, and crazy all at once and I wouldn’t change any part of it. This is the reason why my fall was so busy and it felt like my days were all running together. My friend pulled me into this, and I’m glad I said yes. I didn’t know this was a thing that I wanted to do and it opened my eyes to a new world of possibilities. The fact that we won was just icing on the cake.

02. USE OF FORCE REPORT AND PANEL

This was a year in the making. We worked with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office to collect their use of force cases for 2.5 years and write up a report about what the cases showed. We also hosted a panel discussion to share with the community these results and for the opportunity to get questions answered. It was the first event we held in the new space and I’m happy that it’s finally over 😅 but really that it was a good success. We got a lot of great feedback about the event and future collaborations are in the works.

04. NOVEMBER FAVES

Ulta had a sale and of course, I used this time to try out another scent. I have tried a couple of scents in the Lancome Idole collection – Idole Eau De Parfum and Idole Aura– and loved them! So, I knew that Idole Nectar would be an easy blind buy for me. I knew as soon as I received it that it would be one of my scents for the winter. The main accords are rose, vanilla, caramel, sweet, and floral. I have received nothing but compliments every time I wear it.

I was on Target trying to fill my cart to $35 so it would ship to me. I stumbled on this beautiful framed art piece created by Black artist, Adekunle Adeleke. I of course immediately added it to my cart and added it to my home. And honestly, I have no idea why I didn’t think to put an art piece in the place it’s in now. I purchased another piece to add to my gallery wall. It’s a perfect addition of color and Africaness that brings my heart joy.

I shared earlier how much I love Naturium’s glycolic acid body wash. While scrolling Pinterest, I saw someone talking about their body scrub. Of course, because Target has everything, I quickly added it to my cart. Let me tell you, this is another social media recommendation that was worth the hype. I only use this once a week but I use it in the evening when I use the body wash and my skin has never felt better. The only thing I wish was different was the bottle it comes it. I wanted it to be a tub rather than a bottle.

I’ve used Vitamin C on my face on and off for a while now, but due to the stability of acid – exposures to air, heat, and/or light may slowly degrade the vitamin – it can get quite expensive like this C15 booster serum is $55 for .67 oz. Looking for something a little more wallet-friendly without sacrificing quality, I found Inkkey List Vitamin C serum. I use it every other day and I’ve noticed some of my dark spots aren’t as dark.
