EVERYTHING I PURCHASED FROM BLACK OWNED BUSINESSES IN 2023

Every year, I like to be intentional about where I’m spending my dollars. Supporting Black businesses is important because the dollar can greatly support the Black community. Last year was no different. While I didn’t spend a ton in general last year, I was able to spend some of my dollars at new-to-me businesses. Here are the places where I spent my money last year. If you want to see the other businesses I supported, review 2022 and 2021.

TARGET COLLECTIONS

As if I need another reason to run to Target, Black History Month, the Future Collective, and the designer collaboratives are usually when I get to purchase from Black designers that I wouldn’t readily get to purchase. This year, I grabbed a couple of items from these collections and can’t wait to see what’s coming to Target this year.

REBECCA ALLEN

This new to me brand was the purchase I made for the wedding I was in last year. It’s the perfect nude for my skin tone, and I have received nothing but compliments every time I wear them. I’ve also done a full review for you if you’re on the fence.

JUVIA’S PLACE

This was another wedding purchase that keeps on giving. It’s the Nubian II eyeshadow palette that is perfect for my complexion. The colors are so vivid! It’s also reasonably priced coming it at $20. I have been using some colors as an undereye liner and you can’t tell me nothing! As a gift, I received the lipsticks and they are so good too!

BLACK OPAL

As a newbie to the setting powder world, one thing I knew had to be true, I wanted something that was very close to my complexion. I’ve seen many a youtube video of folks butting on setting powder that made them look lighter than they actually are. So when I discovered that Black Opal made a setting power with dark skin women in mind, I definitely had to add it to the list.

THREAD BEAUTY

I knew that I needed something to contour my face, but not sure where to start, I started scouring the internet. I found Thread Beauty, which is a company founded by the same person who created The Lip Bar. I purchased the Face It complexion stick and have been using it as a contour. I love it because it’s a stick, and you really can’t mess up too much because you can control how much you use.
