3 WAYS TO LOVE ON YOURSELF FOR VALENTINE DAY

Every year, Valentine’s Day has been a day for you to showcase who loves you and how much they love you. With social media, it almost feels like a competition to show who gets the most love on this day. I think it’s great if you have a Valentine that wants to show the world how much they love you, but what about those that’s don’t have a Valentine? I’ve shared how I’m valuing my singleness for Valentine’s Day, and how you can celebrate your girlfriends for Galentine’s day. Now, I want to share, Valentine or not, how you can shower yourself with love.

WHY IT’S IMPORTANT TO LOVE YOURSELF FIRST

There’s a saying, you can’t pour from an empty cup. This is so true. In a world where we all feel depleted by the many different ways that we have to show up in life, we are typically running on E. In order to give love to others, you have to love yourself first. Why? Because you can’t give what you don’t have.

3 WAYS TO BE YOUR OWN VALENTINE

REST

Rest shouldn’t be a treat or reward for all your hard work; everybody needs rest. Rest is important for your health and necessary for you to be your best self. I think rest should be the first way that you love on yourself. If you have time today, love yourself by resting. Whether that’s taking a nap, going to bed early, or choosing to relax and do nothing.

TREAT YOURSELF

Tom and Donna said it best, “Treat yo’ self!!” I’m not gonna lie, I have no problem treating myself. I’m sure my bank account would really appreciate it if I stopped treating myself so much. But I know that this might not be the case for everyone else. Every once in a while, you should treat yourself with things that you don’t normally do like pay for a spa, buy yourself flowers, take yourself to a fancy dinner, or get your hair done. Whatever it is, you don’t need to wait for anyone to do these things for you.

ENJOY A GOOD LAUGH

Laughter is good for the soul. It doesn’t matter what’s going on in my day, I try my best to find something to laugh at. While research is limited, studies have shown that adults and children laugh primarily during social interactions and adults laugh less than children in a day. Since I mostly work from home, I don’t have many social interactions throughout the week. So, it’s important that I intentionally find ways to laugh. Laughter has great short (stress relief, stimulates organs, soothes tensions) and long-term (improve the immune system, relieve pain, improve personal satisfaction) benefits.
