Valentine’s Day is right around the corner which means it’s also time to celebrate Galentine! Leslie Knope made this idea of ladies celebrating ladies popular in Parks and Recreation – a show that I absoutely love! Since then, the idea of Galentine’s spread like wildfire. Rightly so. Women are always celebrated for these big moments such as engagement, marriage, babies, but we don’t celebrate our girlfriends enough, in my opinion, for milestones that aren’t tied to a significant other – i.e., starting a business, getting promotions, starting therapy, buying a home, etc. Near or far, Galentine is the perfect time to show your girlfriends how much you value their friendship.
5 FUN ACTIVITIES TO CELEBRATE GALENTINE’S DAY
BRUNCH
Brunch is the perfect Galentine celebration, especially if it’s been a while since you hung out with your friends. It’s the perfect time to catch up and celebrate the wins – big and small – that your friends have achieved thus far this year. It doesn’t hurt to catch up over good food and mimosa. If you’re looking for a brunch spot here in Cincinnati, you can’t go around with National Exemplar, Louvino, Honey Uninhibted, or Cedar.
GIFTS
Agree upon a set limit for the gifts you purchase for your friends. But the reason I like gifts is that if your friends do not live in the same state, you can send them from anywhere. Gifts don’t have to be extravagant either. While a nice bouquet of flowers will never disappoint, handmade gifts are always winners. Gifts like handwritten letters sharing why you value their friendship are something that can be cherished forever. Or sending a self-care basket with inexpensive items for an at-home spa is perfect for this era of burnout. Whatever gift you give, as long as it is thoughtful, your friends will love it.
FACETIME HAPPY HOUR
If you’re like me and you and your girlfriends are scattered around the country, celebrating Galentine will be a little be harder. The beauty of all this technology is the ability to host happy hours on the internet. Whether it’s on Zoom, Facetime, or other video calling apps, calling and catching up with girlfriends is easy as long as you’re able to plan in advance to coordinate schedules.
STREAM FRIEND-THEMED MOVIES
This can be done together in person or digitally via watch parties. Many streaming apps gives you the ability to host streaming parties through the app where you can host a virtual movie night to stream new or old movies. A virtual movie night that’s friend themed is an easy and lowkey way to staty connected with friends.
SLUMBER PARTY
Who doesn’t love a good old-fashioned slumber party?! Depending on how many of your girlfriends living the area will determine how effective this will be. You can do a themed party, binge watch a new series, or just stay awake and spend the entire night talking. Whatever you choose, the night is sure to be fun, especially if you get to try a Galentine charcuterie board.
