THE {CORRECT} ORDER THAT I APPLY MY SKINCARE PRODUCTS

Hey, y’all! Recently, I wrote up a post that included all the skincare products that I use in my routine. Now that you’ve seen what’s in my arsenal, I’m going to talk about the order that I apply them. It’s important to apply your skincare products in a certain order to maximize the benefits of the products that you purchase. For both my morning and night routines, I follow this order and switch out products based on when it’s best to put them on. I also add an extra step in the morning for sunscreen and an extra step at night for retinol.

I want to say that you absolutely don’t need a 7 step routine. There are many times where I simplify my routine and just cleanse, tone, and add moisturizer. However, when I want to have a 7 step routine, this is the order that I follow to ensure that I’m not wasting product. I also have a few suggestions that aren’t necessarily seen in the graphic. You should be incorporating a mask (clarifying, moisturizing, or exfoliating) into your routine at least weekly. If the mask requires that you rinse it off, I would put it on before toning. If you don’t need to rinse off the mask, I would incorporate it into the routine after toning.

I consider retinol as a serum and incorporate that in my serum step. This is mostly because the serum that I currently use is not a high concentration and I can put it on without mixing it with moisturizer. However, I would caution that if you are incorporating a new retinol into your routine, I would add it after moisturizer to see how your skin reacts to it. Finally, sunscreen should be in your routine no matter if it’s raining outside or you’re in your house. It’s the best defense for your skin and ensures that the products that your spending money on is actually working.
