Before I get into the meat of this post, I need to say this: You should be wearing sunscreen 365, rain or shine. Yes, even Black folks. But since daylight savings and the sun is out more often than winter, I decided to do a post for some of the Black girl-friendly sunscreens. What does this mean? Well, as with everything in this country (re: world), sunscreens haven’t always been inclusive. I remember growing up and hated putting on sunblock because it would leave me looking grey and ashy; two things I am not. Sunscreens were clearly not made with Black and Brown folks in mind, and thank goodness for innovation. I put together a list of sunscreens that do not leave any grey or ashy residue. Some you’ve probably heard of, and others might be new to you. Either way, if you’re looking for a new sunscreen to add to your routine, here are the ones I’ve used or heard great things about. Even if you are not Black or Brown, you can still use the sun protection on the list.

BLACK GIRL SUNSCREEN
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ve already heard me rave about this sunscreen. I use it daily in my skincare routine. It was the first sunscreen I purchased which introduced me to the world of non-grey/ashy tint and smelly sun protection. I’ve tried the 30 SPF, and the 45 SPF made for the face. I prefer the 30 SPF because it doesn’t irritate my eyes like the 45 SPF does when I put it on.
BOLDEN SPF 30 BRIGHTENING MOISTURIZER
Bolden is a Black owned business that creates skincare products. I learned about this brand from Luvvie, who has raved about the brand. They have an excellent moisturizer with sun protection that you should add to your list to try.
SHISEIDO ULTIMATE SUN PROTECTOR CREAM
Shiseido is one of those brands that I aspire to purchase regularly. It’s a Japanese brand I heard about from Kahlana Barfield Brown. Kahlana has an amazing style that makes me want to throw my entire closet away. She has raved about this sunscreen and amazing skin, and I have to agree that this is also a winner. It is a lightweight consistency that has a bit of a scent to it (it’s not an overwhelming scent), that smells heavenly.
SUPERGOOP SUNSCREEN
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ve already heard me rave about this sunscreen. I use it daily in my skincare routine. I’ve used Unseen, Play, and the ReSetting Refreshing Mist.
FENTY HYDRA VIZOR
The first Fenty product I used was their Pro Filter Foundation. It was my first foundation, outside of Fashion Fair, that matched my skin to a tee. I raved about it here. I knew that it would be a great product when the brand came with the sunscreen.
TULA PROTECT & GLOW DAILY
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ve already heard me rave about Tula. I collaborated with the brand, and their Purifying Cleanser was an instant hit for me. So much so that I use it daily in my skincare routine. I’ve tried and love this sunscreen. It has a bit of a tint that gives you a great glow. If you’re looking for a trusted brand, try Tula.
KINLO ALWAYS GOLDEN DAILY MOISTURIZER
This brand is new to me, but Kinlo is the brand created and founded by Naomi Osaka. Any brand created by Black women is a brand that I’ll support. I can’t wait to get my hands on this product.
ELEVEN BY VENUS WILLIAMS UNRIVALED SUN SERUM SPF 35
I knew Venus Williams had a clothing brand but I didn’t realize the brand also made skincare products. This new to me product is something that I’ll be adding to the cart to give a try.
LA ROCHE POSAY ANTHELIOS ULTRA LIGHT FLUID
This is a viral Tiktok recommendation. While I haven’t used this sunscreen, I’ve seen Black and Brown folks apply and rave about the La Roche Posay sunscreen. The great news is it can be found in most drug stores and has a variety of options that match your skin concern.
