MINI LENGTH CHECK

So. At the beginning of the year, I talked about growing waist length hair. Admittedly, I haven’t been doing my due diligence in keeping track of my hair growth this year. But, when I put my hair in a protective style for my trip to Mexico, I noticed the growth of my hair. Mind you, I wasn’t planning to put beads in again. I was actually trying to put in the butterfly locs but they didn’t turn out so hot. So, I decided to share a mini length check about my hair growth.

The first part of my hair I share is the back. Why? Because the back of my head is ridiculous! Lol (Bonus points if anyone gets that reference). Seriously. It grows the fastest and is the longest. Ignoring my crooked parts in the December picture, the braids that I put in this month were slightly larger than the ones I did in July. Namely, because I didn’t want to spend a ton of time on my hair and the first strands I grabbed were larger so I just went with it. As you can see, in July my hair was hitting right below the nape and this month it’s grown at least 2 inches. The state of the ends of my hair is neither here nor there. 🙃

Admittedly, I haven’t done anything spectacular or magical to my hair for the growth that I’ve experienced. All I have been doing is keeping it in protective styles and washing it between styles. My hair loves when I leave it alone. That’s the biggest takeaway that I’ve learned about my hair in the 10 years I’ve been natural. Leave. It. Alone. When I’m constantly manipulating it, I get really annoyed with my hair and am not as patient with the way I take care of it, which is ultimately when I start to see stagnate growth or even breakage.

As you can see from the front (below) and side (above), there’s a more subtle growth in both of these areas. I don’t know why but the front of my hair always grows slower than the back of my hair. It’s probably because the style I do have the front out more often than not, which means it’s more manipulated than the back, even if it’s in a protective style. I think next year, I will continue to do more protective styles but completely protect the front of my hair and see how that works out.

Even though I haven’t been as intentional as I had planned to see hair growth this year, I’m happy to see it’s still growing despite my shenanigans. I plan to find a stylist that I feel comfortable with to not only straighten but also to get on a more regular trimming cycle. Laziness took precedence this year, and I haven’t been trimming my hair as often as I should.

DID YOU SEE ANY HAIR GROWTH THIS YEAR?
