LANEIGE LIP SLEEPING MASK REVIEW

I discovered Laneige from one of my favorite bloggers, Marche. She did a campaign for the company a while ago and really raved about their products. When I saw this, I did a deep dive on the company and their products and one product was stand out because of the high star reviews that I kept seeing – the lip sleeping mask. Every time I’m on Sephora’s website to re-up on a beauty product, I’d add the mask to my cart but never pulled the trigger because it appeared to me as a glorified version of vaseline. Last year, one of the free birthday gifts you could get from Sephora was a trial pack of three of Laneige’s products – the lip sleeping mask, the water sleeping mask, and the water bank moisture cream. Excited to finally get my hands on this product, for free, I decided to do a review specifically on the lip mask.

ABOUT LANEIGE LIP SLEEPING MASK

Laneige‘s website boasts that the lip sleeping mask is a leave-on overnight lip mask that soothes and moisturizes for smoother, more supple lips. While it is a sleeping mask, to get the full benefits of the product, I used it at night and during the day just to see how hydrating it was.

This product is so popular that there is 1 bought every 3 seconds worldwide – based on global unit sales data for 2021. There are currently 5 flavors for this product – Berry (the original), Gummy Bear, Sweet Candy, Vanilla, and Grapefruit.

To give this product a good review, I wore it every day for a month – that’s how long this size lasted – day and night to see how my lips responded and if I actually liked it. The review will be compared to my experience with vaseline, a product I’ve used for most of my life. So, let’s get into the review.

THE GOOD

The flavor that was included in the package is Berry and it smelled heavenly. The scent was subtle and not too strong perfect for me whose migraines are triggered by scents. The consistency of the product is very thick and tacky, making it easy to apply and stay on your lips. Every time I put it on my lips, I had to remind myself that it was a mask and not a chapstick. When I put it on, it was hydrating until it wore off which was a while especially when I wasn’t eating.

THE NOT SO GOOD

While there were many good things about this product, there were a few not so good things that I can’t get over. While many will appreciate the tacky consistency, it’s too thick for me and reminds me so much of lip gloss – which I dislike. At times I would forget that I was wearing it and when I tried to rub my lips together, it would just stick. Other times when I forgot that I had it on, I would lick my lips and realized that it was a good taste in my mouth.

I think the product worked best when I was awake and not sleeping. I would wake up the next morning and my lips wouldn’t feel as hydrated as they would when I put on vaseline. Overall, the hydrating effect that the website claims, it not that different than what the $2 vaseline does to my lips.

FINAL VERDICT

As I suspected, when compared to vaseline, the lip sleeping mask is not significantly different. The main difference is the cost which is $16 more than vaseline and the consistency of the mask that I do not like. Because I get the same, and tbh better, results as vaseline, I will stick to the $2 vaseline that I’ve been using for over 30 years.

WOULD YOU TRY THIS LIP SLEEPING MASK?
