Hey, y’all! I’m back and ready to attack! Lol. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time away from blogging and social media and had the opportunity to just live my life. But I’m happy to be back to blogging again because I have missed it!

I’m especially happy to be returning back to blogging on Equal Pay Day! This day symbolizes how far into the year women must work to earn what men earned in the previous year. If you’ve missed the memo, women typically make less money than their male counterparts in identical positions.

Specifically, the pay gap for women are as followed: white women earn 77 cents, black women earn 61 cents, Latina women are paid 53 cents, Native American women are paid 58 cents, and Asian American women are paid 85 cents for every dollar paid to a white man (statistics from 2018 provided by the National Partnership for Women and Families).

A few weeks ago, I went a panel titled Pay it Forward where Kathryn Finney (CEO and Founder of digitalundivided) hosted Sallie Krawcheck (CEO and co-founder of Ellevest), Tamara Mellon (creator of Tamara Mellon and Jimmy Choo), Teen Vogue Editor-in-Chief Lindsay Peoples Wagner, Storm Reid (actress from A Wrinkle in Time), and Noor Tagouri (journalist, activist, motivational speaker, and producer) to share their life experiences and their current practices in the fight for women’s equal pay.

The panel was very informative and inspirational about what we can do, as women, to close the pay gap. One of the big takeaways, for me, was focusing on sponsorship rather than mentoring. Sponsorship is when you have people that have a seat at the table fighting and advocating on your behalf. I am working to find people that can be sponsors and how I can aslo be a sponsor for someone else. We all need someone in the room fighting for us so I’m working to ensure that that person is a woman.

To promote Equal Pay Day, Tamara Mellon gave out crop tops which is what you seeing me wearing in this post. It provides a great message about how pay inequality sucks. So, to celebrate today, let’s all Pay It Forward and help close the pay gap. You can send your senator an email in support of the Paycheck Fairness Act with just a few clicks.
