#CURRENTLYCANCAN VOL 32

June felt like a blur. Not because it sped by but because I had too much to do with little time to do it. But I’m happy that summer is officially here, and the temperatures are finally starting to get consistent. However, this week has been slightly off because of the Canadian wildfires and the perpetual haze covering the city. Anywho, let’s get into some of the June things.

01. BIG CONFERENCE

We’re working on a Guaranteed Income pilot here in Cincinnati. This is a game-changing concept that will cause disruptions to the system. I remember learning about this in grad school and to have the opportunity to work on is a pinch-me moment. Because many pilots are happening around the country, there is a conference – the Basic Income Guarantee (BIG) Conference – that I got a chance to go to and learn so much information. Three words I have to describe this conference – Empowering. Inspiring. Exceptional. It was fitting to be in Chicago because I enjoy being in that city.

02. A CINCINNATI FASHION SHOW

Cincinnati had a fashion show (yeah, I know, I was impressed, too) during Junetheeth weekend. Fitting because it was a Black fashion show with the theme of Wakanda Forever. Valor and Virtue Productions put it on the show. I was invited as media to view and capture videos and images for the show. Outside of the stifling heat, the show was so good. The designers and designs were amazing. And it was great to see a snippet of Black designers in the city, something I didn’t realize was such a big scene here. Who knew that Cincinnati was a fashionable city?

03. THE GYMNASTS ARE IN TOWN

Last weekend the Y had its National Gymnastics Championship in Cincinnati. Being a former gymnast, I decided to volunteer for the weekend, which was so fun. It was great to give my time, reminisce, and see how much the sport has changed since I last competed.

04. JUNE FAVORITES

I’ve been lifting at the gym for almost a year and am genuinely impressed by my progress. It’s incredible how much stronger I’ve gotten. I usually have lifting gloves, but as my weight gets heavier, the gloves get more slippery, which can be a problem. I don’t like lifting without gloves because I get rips quickly – I have PTSD from all the rips I received all the years on bars. I decided to try an old gymnastics tool – chalk – and it’s been great. I found this chalk ball to help minimize the mess and have managed not to leave the gym with chalk all over me.

I take evening walks after work, and a water bottle is necessary as the temperatures get warmer. Because I always have extra things I want to change on my walks, I knew a water bottle holder would be just what I needed. But the prices were not want I wanted to pay so I went on Amazon and bought this one, which provides enough space for all my things and my water bottle.

Every time I see the phrase, lazy Susan, I always cackle because who was the poor Susan that inspired the name for this magnificent device!? I purchased a new one for my beauty products because my old one would have my products consistently falling over. In this new one, the sides come up a bit higher which protects my beauty products from falling over. It’s brought peace to me for my morning and night routines.
