#CURRENTLYCANCAN VOL 28

February has flown by and I’m not sure how that happened. I looked up and we’re at the end of the month and I’m trying to remember if I accomplished everything that I needed to. 🥴 One great thing that happened this month is I’m back shooting with Dorese who always gets the shot. I just reviewed some of the new photos from our recent shoot and baybee, it’s giving model vibes.

01. THE SUPER BOWL, I GUESS

I didn’t really have a dog in this fight, but I was rooting for the Eagles. The only things I enjoyed were the game because it was well played and Rihanna performed pregnant – I stan a Black queen that can give the bare minimum to cash a check. She got paid to give us crumbs, and we still ate it up. It was giving the confidence of a mediocre white man and I lived. Outside of that, the commercials were trash and I couldn’t shake the feeling that everything else was performative. The addition of Lift Every Voice? Wonderful job by Sheryl Lee Ralph, but why? The “end racism” at the end of the endzone? How we gonna do that NFL? By watching football?! The same organization that blackballed Kaepernick for protesting?! Make it make sense! Maybe I’m making a big deal outta nothing, but it didn’t sit well with my spirit. Every year I watch the super bowl, it just reminds me why I don’t care for the NFL as an organization.

02. ONE MORNING ON MY RUN…

I WAS CHASED BY A STRAY DOG!! All I remember is running my usual route and all of a sudden, out of the corner of my eye, I see something moving and then I hear loud, aggressive barks and something moving faster than I was. This damn dog chased me, and was literally on my tail and about to bite me, all the way down the street and into traffic. Y’all. I almost got hit by a car running from that dog. Also. I was screaming and yelling for help while running from this dog and let’s just say, no one came to my recuse. I mean why would they? It was super dark and no one probably heard the dog barking, just me screaming with no context. Lol. And, the dog stopped chasing me when it saw the headlights of the car. There was a guy not too far away walking his dog and I swear he looked at me funny like, “why is this woman screaming?” It was truly a sight to see and wowz, I’m not running that way again! Lol

03. BLACK WINE FEST

I had the opportunity to attend the first Black Wine Fest this month, and it was a time. I honestly didn’t realize how many Black winemakers existed outside of the big names – think McBride Sisters. We had the opportunity to visit each vendor and taste the wine they had available and learn about their story and what stores they are located in. In addition to this, there was a DJ – DJ Vader Mixx – to keep the vibes going, an Uncle Nearest bar where you had a choice of two cocktails, and snack tables with charcuterie to help soak up some of the wine drinking. It was a ball and I can’t wait to get my hands on the new wines that I love and await patiently for next year.

04. FEBRUARY FAVORITES

The wedding I’m in is two weeks away. Being the only dark skin woman in the wedding, I’m not about to look ashy on camera because folks don’t know how to do my makeup. I bought this foundation and it literally looks and feels like my skin. I might need to enroll in YouTube University to learn how to do makeup for real for real.

I have been in the market for a coconut-scented body wash for what feels like a long time now. I’ve tried so many different brands, but none were giving that true coconut scent. I think I found it with this body wash! It’s the perfect coconut scent, lingers all day, and doesn’t leave my skin feeling dry when I exit the shower.

Target really takes all of my money. Is it even Black History Month if you don’t buy anything from Target’s Black History Collection?? I bought this one and this one.

I’ve been using micellar water or Elemis cleansing balm for a long time. But I’ve been wanting to try DHC Deep Cleansing Oil that everyone has raved about. I bought the travel size to see how it agrees with my sensitive skin. Since I’ve been practicing my makeup skills, I’ve been using this oil to clean my face. Baybee, let me tell you, believe the hype. This oil cleans better than the expensive cleansing balm I use and it’s half the price!
