STYLING AFRICAN PRINT FOR WINTER

The last time I wore this on the blog was when I was still in DC, and the weather was much warmer. I absolutely love this dress, and I knew when I purchased it, it would be in my closet forever. But honestly, that’s how I feel about all my African prints; they will live in my closet forever because they are items that I see myself passing down to the younger generation in my family. While African print is typically more commonly seen during the warmer months, I am here to say that you can wear these prints all year round. Today, I’m sharing how to style African print for winter.

DARKER PRINTS

While you can do more colorful prints for winter – I’ll always recommend wearing color year round – I really like the look and feel of darker African print in the winter. I tend to shy away from these darker prints during the warmer months so I usually reserve them for the colder months. Because it’s printed, I don’t mind reaching for darker colors because it’s still a colorful look.

LAYERS/WINTER ACCENTS

Transitioning anything from warmer to cooler temperatures requires layers. Layering is important to keep you warm but also it’s a great way to get creative and showcase your style personality with those spring and summer items.

But it shouldn’t be just any layers, depending on how cold winter gets for you. If I still lived in Atlanta, I likely would wear booties with tights, but since I live in Ohio, it’s over-the-knee boots and thick layers.

HAVE FUN

Because African print typically has unexpected prints, patterns, and colorways, you don’t need to be so structured when you’re where them in the winter. Add the accessories, coats, shoes, and layers that make the look match your style personality. Make it monochrome or go bold and try print mixing. Whatever you do, make sure you have fun with your outfit because style is all about wearing things that make you feel good.
