WHAT A SHOOT DAY LOOKS LIKE FOR ME

My schedule is pretty hectic trying to juggle the many hats I wear. So, shooting blog content must be very organized and efficient. When it comes to shooting content for the blog, I practice batching — the process of grouping similar tasks that require similar resources to streamline their completion. The weekends or mornings are reserved for shoot days to shoot outfit photos and other content for the blog. I’m always curious about how other bloggers get certain blog processes done. So, I decided to share different processes that occur in my blog.

TALKING WITH MY PHOTOGRAPHER

Before anything else, I schedule time with my photographer to ensure that she has availability. I typically book weeks/months in advance, so I’m usually good on this front when shoot day is approaching. Once the day has been decided, we discuss the location, the number of looks, poses, and other pertinent information.

PLANNING OUTFITS

Obviously, I need to plan looks before I actually shoot them. I usually keep a running list of looks I’m interested in. Because I have a lot going on, I have to write down my ideas before I lose them. Sometimes when I need extra special inspiration, I take to Pinterest to find that extra spark I need to put together outfits.

Once I get a clear idea of the outfits I want to shoot, I try them with different accessories to see what they look like. This is important because sometimes what I see in my head doesn’t translate well in person. This step also helps me find everything I need for the shoot day. I pack two bags with everything I need for the day so that I can easily change and the shoot goes without a hiccup.

DAY OF THE SHOOT

We typically take photos early or during the day because it’s easier to have fewer people walking into the photos, and it’s a great time for good lighting. It’s really easy to fly through the shots because we have a rhythm and both Megan and Dorese know what I like to showcase on the blog. I usually schedule the shoots for an hour unless I have more than 4 outfits to shoot.
