ONE ITEM 3 WAYS – PINAFORE DRESS PART I

Welcome back to another installment of one item 3 ways. This is where I pick one item to style in three different ways (parts II and III). Any time I buy new items, I want to make sure I’m getting the best bang for my buck. If I can’t think of multiple ways I can wear it, I (usually) don’t buy it. For this series, I’m styling an African print pinafore dress – a collarless sleeveless dress worn over a blouse or sweater.

I’ve been looking for a pinafore dress that I love for a while now – probably like 3 years. But I hadn’t been able to find anything that I truly liked. Then I was randomly on Etsy looking for prints for my new gallery wall and stumbled on this dress. Don’t ask me what gallery walls and African print dresses have to do with each other.

The reason I’ve been looking for a pinafore dress is that it’s so versatile and it’s so chic to me. It also reminds me of overalls, a chicer version of overalls. The fact that this dress is an African print just makes my heart sing.

Let’s get into the styling of this first look. I wanted to do a work look because I know that many people are transitioning back into the office right now. What better way to return than with a fabulous look?

Because the print of the dress is the focal point, I decided to keep everything else pretty neutral and less busy. To play up the brown and yellow of the dress, I added my favorite mustard yellow blazer – seen here, here, and here – that compliments the look.

Overall, I really like the way this look turned out. I hope you come back for part II of this series to see how I styled it next.
