MY WASH ROUTINE: CLAY WASH

Hey, y’all! I finally got a new camera to finally get back to my natural hair posts. The camera that I was using was really old and didn’t get to take the best pictures or videos. Now that that’s changed, let’s get into my clay wash routine. This is the final post in my hair routine series. You can find my co-wash routine or shampoo routine.

I do a clay wash every other month to get that extra deep clean. This is my longest wash routine (which is why I only do it every other month) out of the three. The Bentonite Clay that I have always used is the AZTEC SECRET Indian Healing Clay. Bentonite Clay is known for drawing out metals and toxins from your hair. It’s great for your skin as well.

CLAY MIX

So, let’s get started. Getting into the process, the clay mixture consists of one part Bentonite Clay and one part apple cider vinegar. Make sure when you are combining your ingredients, everything you use is plastic. Bentonite loses its effectiveness when it comes into contact with metal.

I use 1/3 cup of Bentonite Clay and 1/3 cup of apple cider vinegar.  You can do more than that but this amount is enough for me because it covers my entire head.

Once the mixture is ready, it will be a smooth paste (as seen below).

APPLYING THE MIXTURE

After combining the clay and apple cider vinegar, I get my spray bottle that’s filled with just water and start to spray my hair. You want to make sure that your hair is soaking wet before you apply the mixture.

I add the mixture to every strand of my hair and I leave it in my hair until it gets hard. Until this occurs, you should not wash out your hair.

WASHING THE CLAY

I jump in the shower and rinse out my hair until all of the clay is completely out of my hair. Subsequently, once all of the clay is out of my hair, I follow up with the Organix Nourishing Coconut Milk Conditioner and then rinse it out before I get out of the shower.

Once everything has been rinsed out, then I add a deep conditioner to my hair. Once I cover my hair, I use my Q-Redew hand-held steamer to help the deep conditioner penetrate my hair shaft. After I put it through all sections of my hair, I cover my hair with a plastic bag for about 10 more minutes before rinsing out the deep conditioner.

I rinse my hair out in the tub with cool to luke-warm water. I then dry my hair with a t-shirt and follow the L.O.C. method: Karen Body Beautiful Sweet Ambrosia Leave-In Conditioner, olive oil, and homemade whipped shea butter.
