ORANGE STRIPES

Orange you glad that this is my favorite color? Hehe. I couldn’t help that orange pun. It was too good to pass up! Anyways. I’m back with another orange look. This time, I’m incorporating orange stripes. This dress was given to me when I was helping my friend Carla clear out her closet. Not wanting to pass up free clothes, especially when it involves the color orange, I left her place with some beautiful, colorful pieces that I can’t wait to wear!

While it’s always been on my mind about how to be more sustainable, there’s been more of an urgency to do so with all the things that have been happening – you know, the Northwest seeing record highs and the ocean burning. It makes me want to be better at being sustainable because I know that I could be doing more in this area.

One way that I’m trying to be better when it comes to sustainability is through my clothes. Whew. Cause I got a lot and I love shopping for more. But it’s not always easy to shop sustainably. Why? Cause it can be quite expensive for one. And two, fast fashion is so enticing especially when you’re trying to decide if you want to participate in the latest fashion trend.

But shopping from fast fashion companies – Zara, H&M, Forever21, Fashion Nova, SheIn to name a few – is not a great idea because these companies are often associated with pollution, waste, a “disposable” mentality, low wages, and unsafe workplaces. Now, I’m not shaming anyone for shopping at these places. I too am guilty of shopping at some of these places. And as I learn more about these companies, I feel guilty when I shop there.

Not wanting to feel guilty about the clothes that I buy, I have committed to restyling and shopping my closet, exchanging clothes with friends, thrifting, and purchasing high-quality classic styles that I’ll wear more than thirty times. I’m also planning to stay in my lane when it comes to fashion. I clearly love a colorful look with classic shapes. Knowing this helps to reduce the impulse buy of the latest trend. I can’t say that I won’t slip up and buy from one of those fast fashion companies – I’m human too! But I will do my best to shop sustainably when I decide to make a purchase. Who knew that me taking photos in this dress with orange stripes would make me think and plan to shop more sustainably?
