DRY BRUSHING V. BODY SCRUBS – WHICH IS BETTER?

It’s that time of year when the air is dry and your skin is drier. While I’ve been exfoliating my skin for most of my life, I must admit that I tend to be more consistent with exfoliating during the winter months than the rest of the year. Mostly because my skin is not as noticeably dry in the summer months as it is in the winter. Plus, my Body Shop lotion doesn’t keep me as moisturized when my skin is extra dry. Last year around this time, I started dry brushing because I kept seeing signs everywhere to do so. I know there are a lot of people that choose one method of exfoliating over the other. I wanted to talk about the benefits of both.

EXFOLIATION – THE BENEFITS

Chances are you probably already exfoliate your face, but many folks neglect to exfoliate the rest of their body. Exfoliating your body is just as important as your face. The great benefits of exfoliation are unclogged pores, increases in circulation, getting rid of dead skin cells, smooths your skin, etc. These benefits can come from using a body scrub to exfoliate or dry brushing.

BENEFITS OF DRY BRUSHING

Dry brushing is a no-fuss way of exfoliation. You use a brush to brush away your dead skin cells while increasing blood circulation & promoting lymph flow/drainage. All you need is a dry brush and a little bit of time to give the exfoliation that your skin needs. When dry brushing, you should never do it with wet skin. I like to jump in the shower before I turn the water on and brush my skin. Also, always start at the bottom (your feet) and work your way up in circular motions. You can also dry brush your face. I would recommend using a separate brush specifically made for dry brushing your face. I don’t dry brush my face because I already have a set face exfoliation process that keeps me happy.

BENEFITS OF BODY SCRUBS

When I first started exfoliating my body, I began with body scrubs. I have used Tree Hut Scrubs since the beginning and can’t see myself changing anytime soon. I’ve tried just about every scent and I love them all! The benefit of using body scrubs is that you can scrub your skin when wet. So on days you just don’t have enough time to dedicate to brushing, body scrubs are great.

FINAL VERDICT

Overall, using a dry brush to exfoliate your body is the best method because of its internal health benefits- it unclogs pores, stimulates the nervous system, increases blood circulation, and promotes lymph flow/drainage. These benefits are why I decided to incorporate it into my skin routine.

Which do I prefer? Honestly, both! Lol. I love how soft and luxurious my skin feels after I use a dry brush or a body scrub. However, dry brushing requires more of my time that I don’t typically have.
