CANCAN RESTYLED: THE BABY DOLL

Hey, y’all! CanCan Restyled will occur once a month where I pick an item from an older post and restyle it. On occasion, I go back through my old posts and have found a couple of looks from old posts that I would love to restyle. In all honesty, I’ve already been doing this on the blog (green bomber, pink off the shoulder, yellow kimono, or any of the one item three ways) for a while. I wanted to give it an official title to explain why I have restyled it, lessons learned, and any anecdotes that I can remember from the original post.

I’ve been itching to restyle this dress since the last time I posted it on the blog. Truth be told, I didn’t like the way I styled the baby doll dress for 3 reasons: First, I had been sick all week. I was so sick that I wasn’t able to speak, eat, or partake in any Thanksgiving festivities. I had just enough energy to lay in bed and sleep all week. It was rough. The day I took these photos was the first day I felt better enough to get out of bed. I looked really sickly still and just wasn’t up to it but I still took the photos anyway.

THEN

Second, this was the first time I started to take my own photos for the blog and the quality of the photos was subpar. I was still trying to figure out the different settings on my camera and I, stupidly, thought that the best time to shoot was in the middle of the day (hence all the shadows and the squinting). Also, the beauty of the top is not really captured. You don’t get a real appreciation for just how stunning it is.

Third, I hated the way that I styled the top. Initially, I wanted to wear it like a dress but I still wasn’t feeling great and there was a chill in the air. I didn’t want to risk getting sick again so I decided to style it with jeans. It was still cute but not the best way that I could have styled it.

NOW

Can’t you tell that I’ve clearly gotten more comfortable in front of the camera, better at posing, and figured out how to fix my face? Well, sorta. Lol.

OUTFIT DETAILS

For this new take on this item, I wore it without pants (ha!) and dressed it for a cute casual affair. This brunch or dinner out with the girls. Except, since we’re still in a pandemic, so envision yourself wearing this look when we can eat out again. The casual look felt appropriate for the way that I’ve been dressing for this hot summer in that pandemic, comfortable.

This baby doll dress was gifted forcibly removed from my mom’s closet last year. I basically told her that the dress is too short for her to wear anymore so that’s how it found its way back into my closet. The movement with this baby doll dress is probably my favorite part of this look. To minimize the shoulder pads, I decided to do an off the shoulder look. That way, it changes the look of the dress. And of course, I love anything off the shoulder as evidenced in so many of my previous looks.

I also love the movement of the dress. It just twirls quite nicely. So much so that I had to be a little careful of how much I was twirling around in this dress. Luckily, I was in the backyard and there was no one noticeable around. All in all, I’m glad I decided to restyle this baby doll dress because the second look is definitely my favorite.
